If you come from Wigan . . .
Via Standish (A49) – turn left at Standish lights towards the M6 and go along School Lane, Almond Brook Road and Shevington Lane. Go past Shevington High School (Technology College) and across two mini-roundabouts. The village centre is straight ahead.
Via Lower Ground (B5375) – leave Wigan by Parson’s Walk, Park Road or Frog Lane; go along Woodhouse Lane, Woodhouse Drive, Wigan Lower Road, Wigan Road, and just past St Bernadette’s Church turn left up Church Lane. Turn left at the mini-roundabout. The village centre is straight ahead.
There is a Parish Council car park (free) in the centre of the village opposite the Plough & Harrow pub.
If you come from the M6 . . .
Leave at junction 27 – follow signs to Wigan, but at the junction with Shevington Lane turn right towards Shevington and Orrell. Go past Shevington High School (Technology College) and across two mini-roundabouts. The village centre is straight ahead.
If you come by public transport . . .
By train – from Wigan Wallgate station, take the Southport train to Gathurst. (Not all Southport trains stop at Gathurst.) Turn right at the bottom of the station approach. The village is about three quarters of a mile away. Note the canal when you cross it. National Rail Enquiries
By bus – from Wigan Bus Station: 635 is the most useful (2023). For the village centre, alight at the Plough and Harrow, or the Co-op. Click here for the GMPTE website
